Betblocker app now available for Dutch players

With the Dutch online gambling market officially opening up on the 1st of October 2021, the industry has a focus on the regulated casino market. We will soon know which NetEnt Casinos we can expect to be active with the newly regulated market. While regulated, safe gambling should always be in the spotlight, the reason BetBlocker launched its app in Dutch. The free tool, is now available in Dutch, helping players control their gambling.

About BetBlocker

Important to know is that BetBlocker was founded by Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) service ThePOGG in 2017. Many know ThePOGG as a service that manages complaints between players and operators.

A good number of complaints about responsible gambling lead to the development of the BetBlocker app. ADR/ThePOGG was uncomfortable to channel players with a probable addiction to fee-based blocking services. Hence, a separate service to tackle the problem and help players.

A rapid growth in demand in 2019 for the BetBlocker tool leads to the end of the tool as an add-on to the ADR service. BetBlocker was established as a charity in the UK in 2019. Therefore, it could start to receive funding from donations from an array of businesses in the gambling industry. Thanks to the donations, BetBlocker was able to improve both the function of the app and the user support.

“Expanding BetBlocker to other language markets has always been a clear objective for the service. The most significant barrier to taking this step is providing native language support, due to the staffing costs involved,” said Duncan Garvie, founder and Trustee for the charity.

Now BetBlocker reached another milestone with the app expanding its service to the newly regulated Dutch market. This means that the responsible gambling app will be entirely in Dutch. Alongside this, BetBlocker will now be able to offer Dutch language technical support. This wouldn’t have been possible without the cooperation of L&L Europe.

Partnership with L&L Europe

The BetBlocker app is now available in Dutch thanks to a partnership with L&L Europe. The cooperation came into the spotlight in May and lead to a successful launch of the Dutch BetBlocker app.

“The partnership with L&L Europe is a symbiotic relationship that both allows BetBlocker to focus the funding we receive on improving and expanding the protections that our app offers while L&L Europe demonstrate their commitment to responsible gambling, providing translation services to allow Dutch users to access BetBlocker in the language they are most comfortable with.

It is our hope that L&L Europe will be the first of many partnerships of this nature. It would allow BetBlocker to expand the number of languages available for players in different countries. We are very grateful to L&L Europe for the faith they showed in the service to come on board with this pilot project,” said Duncan Garvie.

About L&L Europe

With decades of experience within the industry, L&L Europe has basically been around since the first online casinos popped up. As an award-winning casino operator, they carry all the knowledge. At the moment, L&L Europe runs 9 online casinos in different online casino markets.

It all started with a licence from the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA). In the past years, they also received a casino license from the United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) and the Swedish Spelinspektionen.

Players will know L&L Europe for their unique concepts such as No Bonus Casino, as well as their local brands. L&L Europe won various awards including Best casino group 2019 and 2020 by CasinoMeister.

“How a simple question like: “Is there a gambling block application available in the Dutch language?” results in such an amazing and well executed project! Extremely proud to be collaborating with Betblocker & “Pas op met Gamen en Gokken” founder Feite Hofman.

An online casino operator has a duty of care, and this project completion shows we have. This truly shows we’re not only compliant within the field of responsible gambling, but we also take the extra step,“ said Jan Wienk, Marketing Manager and Head of Product Development

What is the BetBlocker app used for?

The free app (also free from advertisements) allows users (players and parents) to restrict themselves, or their children, from accessing remote gambling sites.

Users can (partly) block themselves in two ways:
– via a continuous block
– or by scheduling when the restriction switches on/off (to offer protection during periods of vulnerability)

You basically set a Gambling Self-Restriction with the help of the BetBlocker tool. Restricting yourself, the tool will automatically restrict the devices you installed the app on from accessing any of the gambling sites.

There are other self-restriction services like Gamstop (UK), Spelpaus (Sweden) and Cruks (Netherlands). However, these regulator run services only extend as far as gambling sites that are licensed in that country. The BetBlocker app does not base its restriction on regulated countries only.

BetBlocker tries to cover all gambling sites, with or without a casino license. They update their database on a weekly basis to ensure maximum protection against all gambling sites. Of course, this list will also include all regulated Dutch online casinos as soon as their casino licences are confirmed by the Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), which is the Dutch gambling authority.
