Check out the Gonzo’s Gold™ gameplay preview

A few days ago, NetEnt fans finally got some great news! It has been rather silent when it comes to the new NetEnt Games launched in 2021. It seems that it was worth the long wait! NetEnt used the ever-popular Starburst™ slot for its first game launch, now followed by the Gonzo’s Quest™ slot. Yes, you read it right, Gonzo returns to the reels! I already published the official announcement, but now I have the first details about the Gonzo’s Gold™ gameplay!

Sequel to Gonzo’s Quest™ slot

The announcement raised a few questions, and I’m sure I’m not the only one wondering. The first question that popped up in my mind, concerns the Gonzo’s Gold™ gameplay. How much does it looks like the gameplay of the Gonzo’s Quest™ slot? Do we see the Avalanche feature back?

My second question is, can this announced sequel to the Gonzo’s Quest™ slot beat the original? I doubt it can! The Gonzo’s Quest™ slot is just a perfect combination of everything! A fantastic character, great graphics, the best game sounds, and an even better gameplay!

The Gonzo’s Quest™ gameplay is hard to beat! But let’s not be too prejudiced about it and look at it with an open mind. As if Gonzo’s Quest™ slot doesn’t exist yet.

Okay, I can’t! I need to know if the Avalanche feature is going to return, especially in combination with the increasing Multiplier. I also wonder if we see Free Falls back in the Gonzo’s Gold™ gameplay when the game arrives at the NetEnt Casinos on 14th October 2021.

And what about Gonzo? Will we see him hanging around the reels, grumpy as usual, doing the moonwalk? Oh, I can’t wait to see a preview video, although it seems that Evolution let go of the usual NetEnt preview videos after they took over in December 2020.

The first Gonzo’s Gold™ slot footage

If we look at all the images available now, we do see Gonzo. But if he will turn up next to the reels again to be cool again, I can’t say yet. I start to be a bit pessimistic about the sequel to Gonzo’s Quest™ as the images don’t show anything impressive yet.

I always have my hopes up when it comes to the NetEnt slots. They’ve done fantastic things in the past, and Gonzo’s Quest™ is one of them. It was this particular slot that set my casino heart on fire. And I was already writing about the casino games for a while!

That’s exactly why the Gonzo’s Quest™ slot has a super special place in my video slot heart. Of course, I want the long-awaited sequel to be as great as its predecessor!

So far, I see Gonzo indeed returning to the reels. But as a symbol, not as the most charming character next to the reels! What is a Gonzo slot without The Gonz next to the reels? Let’s hope I’m wrong!

What about the Gonzo’s Gold™ gameplay?

Gonzo’s Quest™ appeared at the NetEnt Casinos in 2011, bringing the Spanish explorer Gonzo to the reels. From that day, the day the Gonzo’s Quest™ slot became available, I finally found real joy in writing about a video slot.

Now, I’m overwhelmed with feelings of disappointment, but I’m a spoiled one when it comes to the NetEnt slots. I should stop whining and be happy!

After all, the Gonzo’s Gold™ gameplay promises Cluster Pays and Free Spins. Let’s go over the information available about the new NetEnt slot to find out what the gameplay will be all about.

The video slot layout

NetEnt reveals “5 reels, 5 rows, the game is a classic NetEnt game in so many ways.” It’s clear that the standard 5×3 layout is going to be replaced with a 5×5 grid. It’s rather typical for a video slot that uses the Cluster Pays™ mechanic.

On the reels, we see symbols with Gonzo and Incan characters. The rest of the symbols bring coloured letters. Pretty simple and basic so far, but we never know what surprises NetEnt has in mind.

Cluster Pays™ slot

The following sentence shows it’s no secret that the Gonzo’s Gold™ gameplay runs around the popular Cluster Pays™ mechanics. “Apart from Gonzo, who is the quintessential NetEnt character, the game also contains a number of features that are hallmarks of NetEnt slots, including Free Spins and the cluster pays™ mechanic.

It’s definitely one of the proven slot mechanics from NetEnt and I think many players love to see it back in the upcoming Gonzo’s Gold™ slot.

The original Gonzo’s Quest™ (one of the most successful online slots ever made, and a legend in its own right) was highly innovative and was one of the first slots to use cascading symbols in place of the conventional reel. This slot, on the other hand, keeps things simple and sweet (the sweetness being the serious win potential that can be found in the game, especially in Free Spins).

It’s pretty clear now that the Gonzo’s Gold™ gameplay is going to be kept simple. More experienced players will love this formula for sure. They don’t care much about the graphics nor the video slot features, as long as there’s a chance to win big, they’re fine!

Free Spins feature

No more Free Falls! These will be replaced by the Free Spins feature in the Gonzo’s Gold™ slot.

“Another treasure that awaits discovery is Free Spins. 3 or more Scatter symbols appearing anywhere on the reels in the main game or in Free Spins award 10 Free Spins and a bonus win.”

Before you start your Free Spins, NetEnt revealed a pick-and-click game. You then click one of the symbols for it to reveal the expanding symbol. Expanding symbols help you on your quest, bringing you closer to unlocking the long-lost riches of the Incas. Scatters substitute for all symbols in the game.

Gonzo's Gold™ slot

Gonzo’s Gold™ slot launch

I was hoping for wild rivers full of gold, a clumsy hippo, and Gonzo showing his new dance next to the reels. But I don’t think any of this is going to happen.

There are no signs of Gonzo so far, other than as a symbol on the reels. We have to wait until a slot preview or the Gonzo’s Gold™ slot launch to find out what this game is all about.

So far it seems like nothing more than a 5×5 reels counting video slot with Gonzo as one of the symbols. This time, we end up in an Incan temple.
