Creature from the Black Lagoon Touch® now available at the mobile casinos
I haven’t seen Creature from the Black Lagoon yet, but I’ve seen a great number of classic black & white films and all equally good or interesting and with an IMDB rate of 7.0, this film has a better rate than the majority of the films brought to the cinemas in 2019. The film became the inspiration source for a video slot several years ago, but it was this week the Creature from the Black Lagoon™ video slot was relaunched as an HTML5 game together with a Touch® version.
The big HTML5 update
It was at the end of 2013 that the Creature from the Black Lagoon was launched, but it was relaunched this week for a particular reason. A few years ago, it became pretty clear that the support of Flash media was going to come to an end after some large browser suppliers publicly announced they would no longer support Flash. It was clear that HTML5 as a developer tool was changing the way games were created. Therefore, a move from NetEnt to a new technology that was supported by browsers was a necessity and a total of 70 top-performing classic NetEnt titles were going to become available in HTML5.
Many NetEnt slots, however, were added to the list of End of Life slots (EOL). Instead of performing an HTML5 update on these games to remain available at the NetEnt Casinos, these Flash video slots are ditched. Sad for NetEnt, sad for the players, but with Flash not being supported by browsers in the near feature, NetEnt had to take a few tough decisions going through its long list of NetEnt slots to decide whether a game is performing good enough to stay or to be added to the EOL list.
A great number of NetEnt slots have been either ditched in the past years or received an HTML5 upgrade and with that a Touch® version as well. I don’t know how many games are left to receive the HTML5 update or to be ditched. In 2019, Fruit Case™, Mega Joker™, Go Bananas™, Wish Master™, and Wild Turkey™ were upgraded to HTML5, there to stay for at least a few more years while Fruit Case Touch®, Mega Joker Touch®, Go Bananas Touch®, Wish Master Touch®, and Wild Turkey Touch® were added to the mobile casinos. Now Creature from the Black Lagoon™ is the first in 2020 to receive an HTML5 update while being launched as Creature from the Black Lagoon Touch® as well.
Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)
There’s something about the black & white films from the old days, the voices, the lack of colours and special effects. They’re nothing like the films we know nowadays which sometimes seem to be more about the special effects than about a good story. Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of those black & white films that you can’t miss out on if you like old films in which a strange prehistoric beast lurks in the depths of the Amazonian jungle. A group of scientists is trying to capture the creature to bring it back to civilization for study.
Created in 1954, Creature from the Black Lagoon is a horror 3D movie in black & white, but not like of the 3D films we see in the cinemas these days full of special effects. The audience in that time wore viewers with grey polarizing filters, similar to the viewers most commonly used while watching 3D films in the cinemas these days. But even though Creature from the Black Lagoon could be seen as a 3D movie, many actually saw the film “flat”, in 2D as the 3D version was only available in large downtown theatres.
Besides a classic film, Creature from the Black Lagoon™ is available as a video slot for years already, but it’s since this week that the game is available as an HTML5 video slot and as a mobile video slot. Thanks to a contract signed with Universal© at the time, the original pictures were used, as well as all main characters including the protagonist from the film, the prehistoric, half-fish, half-human creature. All of this can now be enjoyed using your mobile phone or tablet as well, playing Creature from the Black Lagoon Touch®.
With Wilds, Spreading Wilds, Sticky Wilds, Free Spins, and Re-Spins, the Creature from the Black Lagoon™ and Creature from the Black Lagoon Touch® are offering a feature-packed game. Wild symbol substitution transforms the Wild symbol into a Sticky Wild to remain on the reels during a free Re-spin, a feature available in both the main game and during Free Spins. Additional Wild symbols appearing anywhere on the reels in the main game and during Free Spins, also remain on the reels until the Re-spins end.
Free Spins Enter the murky underwater lair of the Creature in Free Spins to rescue Kay and unlock the Spreading Wilds. As well as Sticky Wilds, with 1 of 2 different possible Spreading Wilds you’ll be able to create massive wins. Meanwhile, you can follow the progress the Creature’s Health Meter is making towards unlocking a new Spreading Wild.
Being a high volatile video slot, this game has been designed to see players enjoying big wins rather than frequent wins while the Return to Player of 96.47% is pretty standard for a branded slot developed by NetEnt.
