NetEnt announces official emoji® slot

I’m super excited as NetEnt’s second presentation at ICE 2017 today, resulted in the Swedish software developer revealing the official emoji® slot, Emojiplanet®, to be the next branded slot game. It was yesterday that NetEnt announced the Planet of Apes™ slot as one of the two new branded slot games, but casino life got even better knowing that the famous emojis, that play such an important role in many of our lives (if we want it or not), will be brought to life on the reels thanks to NetEnt’s second branded slot game of 2017.

Two new branded slot games announced at ICE 2017

It was during ICE 2017, one of the world’s prestigious casino gaming events, that NetEnt has been holding two new game presentations. These presentations are extremely popular and very crowded as the entire iGaming industry is curious what new branded game NetEnt will bring next. Last year, NetEnt announced the Guns N’ Roses™ slot, one hard to beat to be fair. But with two presentations this year, involving two branded slot game announcements, it has been another successful iGaming event for NetEnt.

Yesterday at 3pm was the first presentation and in front of a crowded exhibition floor, the company announced the Planet of the Apes™ slot to be one of the two next branded slot games. Great stuff as the company is now having access to 50 years of film history including the 1968 film. This new branded slot game won’t be the first based on a classic film, though, as it was in December 2013 that NetEnt launched the Creature from the Black Lagoon™ slot based on the 1954 horror film of the same name. One year later, NetEnt also launches The Invisible Man™ slot which has been based on the 1933 movie, and I’m sure many more branded slots will be inspired by classic movies in the future.

Now that’s an impressive brand NetEnt signed up for, but I’m sure the branded slot game revealed during the presentation of today will ring some bells too *wink* as this slot is going to be all about emoticons and smileys, officially called emoji®.

Official emoji® slot

The official emoji® slot, Emojiplanet®, which will bring a whole new subject to the reels, is expected to become available in the third quarter of 2017. I’m already wondering how this branded slot is going to look like and which innovations NetEnt will use to make this official emoji® slot as successful as can be.

The Planet of the Apes™ slot is much easier to picture than a video slot involving such important content, although the upcoming The Emoji Movie made it slightly easier for me to see the bigger picture.

Emojis were initially created by Japanese mobile operators, but over the years they seriously changed the way we communicate. The first emoji was created in 1998 or 1999 in Japan by Shigetaka Kurita and now they take part in our conversations daily. It’s because of this that Emoji® is one of the best-known and frequently used brands in the world. These emojis, also known as smileys or emotions, influenced digital messaging, changing the way we communicate via email, text messages, or social media.

As NetEnt’s latest branded slot, Emojis will bring a new and unique social gaming experience to the online casino world in the third quarter of 2017, following the summer launch of the anticipated feature film, The Emoji Movie. To be able to create the official emoji® slot, NetEnt teamed up with Global Merchandising Services & The emoji Company.

Simon Hammon, Chief Product Officer of NetEnt, comments: “As a leader in both mobile online gaming and innovation, Emojis is a perfect fit with NetEnt. Every day, millions – if not billions – of people around the world enjoy using Emojis. They have become a language in their own right; it is hard to think of a more collectively familiar and loved brand to partner up with.”

For the first time, these icons will be brought to life on the reels of a video slot and I’m sure they will be accompanied by some of NetEnt’s innovative features, appealing to players of all ages. Developed and designed with a mobile first approach, it will ensure a superb NetEnt gaming experience whether playing at home or on the go.

Jens Drinkwater, Licensing Manager at Global Merchandising Services Ltd said: “We are tremendously excited to bring the colorful and exciting world from the emoji company to the gaming community. We are sure that the Emojiplanet® game will be a fantastic success for players of all ages.”
