NetEnt highlights 2017

And with another new year around the corner, it’s time for some highlights and what a year it was again! An amazing €78 million in jackpots was paid out by NetEnt in 2017, but what about a new series of high-quality games, and awards won while NetEnt continues to reach new record levels in terms of revenues, profits, cash flow, and transactions. What impressed me most this year was the expansion into new regulated markets as well as NetEnt’s expansion within existing markets.

NetEnt’s highlights in 2017 overview

Halfway January, NetEnt was named Casino Content Supplier of the Year at the EGR Nordics Awards. NetEnt did beat seven other iGaming suppliers in one of the most hotly-contested categories during the awards show that is meant to celebrate the region’s most successful and innovative online gaming companies.

The first Mega Jackpot was won in January when a 62-year-old female player from central Finland won the €3.5 million jackpot from just a €1 stake placed on the Mega Fortune Dreams™ slot.

In the beginning of February, NetEnt announces that after a successful integration process, a wide range of NetEnt Games went live in Codere’s online casino network in Mexico. This was only weeks after NetEnt signed a license agreement with Codere to enter the regulated online casino market in Mexico.

It wasn’t NetEnt’s busiest year when it comes to casino licenses and new customer agreements, but what a great news it was when Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB), the gaming regulator in the Canadian province of British Columbia, approved NetEnt Americas as a supplier to the only licensed gaming and lottery operator in the province, British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC).

During the prestigious EGR B2B Awards 2017 beginning of June, NetEnt was ahead of the competition winning the ‘Mobile supplier of the year’, ‘RNG casino supplier of the year’ and ‘Innovation in RNG casino software’ categories, again being recognised for the company’s leadership in tech and innovation.

It was on the 8th of June that NetEnt announced that following successful technical integrations, NetEnt was able to launch a selection of its high-quality games with Mozzart, the leading gaming operator in Serbia entering another regulated online casino market.

A 47-year-old Norwegian player managed to scoop one of the highest ever jackpots of €7.5m on Hall of Gods™. Playing the desktop version of the popular Norse mythology-themed Hall of Gods™ slot, the winner managed to hit three Mega Jackpot shields during the well-known bonus game.

Continuously expanding on regulated markets, it was in October that NetEnt signed a second customer agreement in Mexico, this time with Caliente, the largest online gaming operator on the regulated market in Mexico.

Beginning of October another regulated market came into the picture after NetEnt announced it launched the NetEnt Games on the regulated market in Czechia with Tipsport, the leading sports betting company in the country.

To further underline its pioneer status, NetEnt launched the Free Round Widget in November, a totally new way of rewarding players with free spins, in a fun, innovative and exciting way. A tool invented to increase player engagement and loyalty.

At the beginning of December, a very lucky player could start looking forward to a very Merry Christmas winning the Hall of Gods™ Mega Jackpot of €7.2 million, the second big win on Hall of Gods™ in 2017.

Signing an agreement with IGT to supply online casino games to Norsk Tipping, the state lottery in Norway made a great news message halfway December.

All the above make a great summary of NetEnt highlights 2017, but it was only a few days ago that NetEnt revealed it paid out a total of 321 jackpots during 2017, together amounting a dazzling €78.3 million. The Mega Fortune Dreams™ slot alone has paid out a whopping €30.4 million in 2017. It was also the most popular choice, with the highest number of unique players and rounds played.

NetEnt Games launched in 2017

The first new video slot announced in 2017 was Wild Wild West: The Great Heist™, but it wasn’t until the 24th of January 2017 that the first new NetEnt game was actually launched. 2017 knew a good start when it comes to the NetEnt slots with the launch of a new Jackpot game called Divine Fortune™. The game brought three recycled local NetEnt Jackpots before linked to some outdated NetEnt slots.

February 7th was the day the Planet of the Apes™ slot was announced, but it wouldn’t be until further on in 2017 that the game was going to be available and the same was the case for the Emojiplanet™ slot which was announced during the same iGaming event. Two days later the Joker Pro™ slot arrived, a game that used to be exclusive but now available to all NetEnt Casinos.

Announced in the beginning of 2017, it was on February 23rd that Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist™ was launched, a comic-book style of game that takes players on a wild ride! This game was followed by the Jungle Spirit: Call of the Wild™ in March, and Fairytale Legends: Hansel and Gretel™ in April. The latest followed Fairytale Legends: Red Riding Hood™ which was launched in Oktober 2016 and I’m sure this NetEnt slots series will be expanded in the future.

Scruffy Duck™ and Copy Cats™ became available in May, but they didn’t manage to get to my video slot heart and the same goes for Butterfly Staxx™ launched in June.

Supposed to be released in July 2017, the Phantom of the Opera™ slot was postponed and is now planned to be released on the 24th January 2018 as the Universal Monsters™ The Phantom’s Curse slot.

A bit of a gap wasn’t a big deal knowing what was coming. I looked forward to this game since the announcement in February and on the 23rd of August the Emojiplanet™ slot was launched. No secret at all, I wasn’t impressed at the beginning, but later on, I started to appreciate this blockbuster video slot more although I’m pretty sure it won’t make it to my top 3 NetEnt slots launched in 2017.

Wolf Cubs™ and The Legend of Shangri-La: Cluster Pays™ kept players busy during September while October brought two great NetEnt slots to the NetEnt Casinos. The long-awaited Blood Suckers 2™, the successor of Blood Suckers™, brought a great design, gameplay, and frightening adventure on the reels, perfect for Halloween that was just around the corner.

All great, but in my (very personal) opinion, I believe that the best was yet to come with the launch of Planet of the Apes™ slot. Although, I’m lying a bit here as I didn’t show great enthusiasm when this blockbuster slot was announced in February 2017. My enthusiasm was only sparked when the preview video was published by NetEnt. That’s the moment I found out that the Planet of the Apes™ slot was going to exceed my expectations, more than any game in 2017. As expected, the game as a big success from the start and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be my number one in the Top 3 NetEnt slots 2017 which I’ll publish in the new year.

December was going to be quiet, but just before the Finn and the Swirly Spin™ slot was released, another game that exceeded my expectations. Not the way Planet of the Apes™ did, but another innovative game was born and I’m sure Finn is still stealing the hearts of many NetEnt Casino players.
