NetEnt’s New Jersey adventure continues thanks to deal with Churchill Downs
Planned to go online in 2019,Churchill Downs has secured a deal with NetEnt for the implementation of the entire NetEnt games suite. NetEnt sees a great deal as Churchill Downs is very well-known as the largest online betting operator onshore for horse racing and a great addition to NetEnt’s fast growing customer base in New Jersey, US.
NetEnt’s Expansion into North America
Today, the majority of NetEnt’s customers are located in Europe and it won’t be a surprise that NetEnt will continue to focus on the European market. However, the Swedish games supplier is having a focus on the North American online casino market as well. Customers signed on this market are expected to contribute to long-term growth.
So far, only a few states have opened for online gaming in the US: Nevada (poker), Delaware (all online games) and New Jersey (all online games). It was already in 2015 that NetEnt applied for an online casino license in New Jersey. Until today, the company is operating in the state under a temporary license (a transactional waiver). It’s thanks to this transactional waiver that NetEnt has been able to distribute its popular casino games to several operators in the state, while their license application is still under review. Since 2015, NetEnt managed to sign customer agreements with a great number of operators including bwin.party, the Borgata brands, Caesars, Golden Nugget, Resorts Casino, PokerStars, Tropicana, and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City.
In Pennsylvania, a new gaming legislation has recently been adopted that allows online casino gaming in the state. Time for NetEnt to enter state number two and, therefore, NetEnt has filed the application to The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) for a casino license to be able to deliver its game portfolio to Pennsylvania casinos for their online casino operations. NetEnt yesterday announced that a first deal in the state of Pennsylvania has been signed with Penn National Gaming.
NetEnt will continue to monitor developments in other US states that are close to regulating. NetEnt intends to launch its products on these online casino markets if the conditions are right.
In Canada, the online casino market is regulated and open in several provinces such as Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec. As a first step to enter Canada, NetEnt has obtained a casino license in British Columbia.
NetEnt’s deal with Churchill Downs
To strengthen its position in the New Jersey market, NetEnt has entered into a customer agreement with gaming operator Churchill Downs, the largest online betting operator onshore for horse racing in the US.
“We are excited to start delivering our popular game titles to Churchill Downs, probably most known for its iconic flagship horse-racing event, the Kentucky Derby. With our thrilling game titles, I am confident that we will be an important contributor to growth in online casino for Churchill Downs”, says Erik Nyman, Managing Director NetEnt Americas LLC.
The operator will be offering NetEnt’s full portfolio of online casino games. The launch of their online casino site and online sports betting site in the state is planned to go online early 2019.
“There is no doubt NetEnt games have proven to be player favorites in every market they have been deployed. We are looking forward to adding hit titles Jumanji, Starburst and Gonzo’s Quest to offer the best possible experience to our players”, said Ian Williams, President, Churchill Downs Interactive.
