Stay chilled with NetEnt’s upcoming Berryburst™ slot
We all love Starburst™, that’s a fact! No video slot managed to become as popular as the Starburst™ slot, but what about the upcoming Berryburst™ slot? It’s obvious that this new NetEnt video slot is inspired by the good old Starburst™ slot which has been available at the NetEnt Casinos since January 2012. And now some sort of successor is being announced by NetEnt bringing the same simplicity and yet another very colourful fruit festival to the reels.
My first impression
It’s really hard to give a fair opinion about a new video slot if I don’t have all the game information available. However, a first impression has nothing to do with numbers, slot features or payouts, it just simply involves my opinion about the Berryburst™ slot. And what can I say, without an RTP percentage available or more information about the slot features, I can only think that the Berryburst™ slot is a look-alike of Starburst™. There’s a good chance I’m totally wrong but the above preview video definitely shows a very colourful video slot with few slot features while you’re drawn into a space type of environment. Am I wrong?
Later in this article, I’ll compare both NetEnt video slots and put both the Starburst™ slot and the Berryburst™ slot in the spotlights. First I would like to tell something more about the Starburst™ slot which has been available at the NetEnt Casinos since January 2012 already. In those 6,5 years, Starburst™ managed to become the most popular video slot ever developed. Not NetEnt and not any of the competition managed to develop a game as successful as the Starburst™ slot.
Even though the reviews regarding the Starburst™ slot weren’t that much promising after the game’s release, the NetEnt slot found its way to success anyway. It didn’t take long for the reviewers to realise that the simplicity the Starburst™ slot was designed with, was what players at the NetEnt Casinos appreciated the most. That and a simple gameplay seemed to be the biggest success factor of the Starburst™ slot. What helped a lot is that many NetEnt Casinos used this game for free spins promotions, which resulted in a huge boost for the Starburst™ slot.
Starburst™ versus Berryburst™
So what’s new in the Berryburst™ slot compared to the Starburst™ slot? Well, in my opinion, not that much, but yes a few things are different. We can expect new fruit symbols, for example, bigger than we’ve seen in the Starburst™ slot. Also, a new airy sound has been added to the Berryburst™ slot while I’m trying to figure out what happened to the bet lines. I’m guessing we’re talking about another Cluster Pays™ game here or a 243 Ways to Win game. The Expanding Wild is back, but the Starburst™ Star went missing and as far as I can see no Re-spins will be available. Not sure yet if we’re looking at a better version of the good old Starburst™ slot here, but as I mentioned before, I don’t have any other game facts available yet so I have to figure it all out watching the above preview video.
The best way to compare two NetEnt slots? Print screens! Exactly, so here we go:
The above image shows the main game of Berryburst™ slot while the image below shows the Starburst™ slot. The first thing I noticed was the two logos having a lot in common. The colours changed and Berryburst™ got a pink character while Starburst™ has a purple-black image.
Starburst™ was based on the gem type of games like Bejeweled, hence the different gems available on the reels. A classic character was given to the game by adding the Bar and Seven symbols. In Berryburst™ we can expect berries. obviously, mandarines, limes, and grapes while the NetEnt developers added some card symbols as well.
Do you see the ice cube in the above image? That’s the Wild and do you see the Star in the image below? That’s the big star symbol in the Starburst™ slot, but it’s the Ice Cube that got this part in the Berryburst™ game. So two different symbols, but both acting the same way. When they appear on the reels, they expand covering the entire reel. Any differences here? As far as I can see is the Starburst™ offering a Re-spin feature after the appearance of the Wild, but I start to believe that the same goes for the Berryburst™ slot. In that case, no differences when it comes to the one real slot feature available in the two games.
Here you see how these two important symbols expand over the entire reels. The one video slot is leaving a Wild reel while the Starburst™ Wild leaves a trail of stars on the reel it appeared.
Both games offer the player simplicity as not many slot features are involved. At first, I thought the players would become incredibly bored, but what happened is the opposite. Players loved the simple part of the game and that’s why I believe that the Berryburst™ slot can become as popular as the beloved Starburst™ slot. However, that’s just a first impression as I have no further information about this upcoming NetEnt slot yet, except that the game wil become available at the NetEnt Casinos on the 23rd of August. Stay tuned!
